Congratulations to The Weeknd who scores his third No. 1 In a row on the Billboard 200 albums chart, as'My Dear Melancholy'debuts atop the list. The EP that arrived with little noticeandearned 169,000 equivalent album units in the week ending April 5, according to Nielsen Music -- the biggest week for an R&B album in over a year, dating back to hispreviousalbum,2016s'Starboy.' The set also notches the highest sales week for an R&B album in nearly a year, since Mary J. Bliges'Strength of a Woman,' which started with 72,000 copies sold on the chart dated May 20, 2017.
'Melancholy'becomes the shortest album -- by track count -- to hit No. 1 On the Billboard 200 in nearly eight years. Back in 2010, the 'Glee: The Music, Journey' to Regionals'soundtrack, which also had just six tracks, bowed at No. 1 On the list datedJune 26.
For the last time a set this short by an artist reigned atop the tally, youd have to go all the way back to December 18, 2004 when Jay-Z and Linkin Park teamed up for the six-track 'MTV Ultimate Mash-Ups Presents: Collision Course.' Elsewhere in the top 10, this weeks chart sees some big debuts. Rich the Kids full length debut studio album 'The World Is Yours'arrives with 59,000 units earned, while Kacey Musgraves collects her third top 10 album as'Golden Hour'bows at No. 4 With 49,000 units.
