'Are Pro Sports in Vegas a Gamble' PreviewReal Sports w Bryant GumbelHBO

ANDREA KREMER: Last month,
with the Vegas strip in full view, the NFL broke ground
on a stadium, which will soon become home
to the Oakland Raiders. Then, surrounded by casinos, major sports made
its official Vegas debut... -(CROWD CHEERING)
-ANNOUNCER: These... are your... Vegas Knights! KREMER: ...When the NHL's
newest expansion team, the Vegas Golden Knights,
took the ice. (CROWD CHEERING) The hypocrisy... Is...
Just so overwhelming. They say because we have
the Giants and the Jets and the Devils, that somehow,
we shouldn't be allowed to have gambling here, 'cause somehow it will threaten
the integrity of the game. Well, ya kidding? How isn't it threatening
the integrity of the game in Las Vegas for the NHL
and the NFL? If you want to sit...
In your ivory tower...

And pontificate
about the integrity of your beloved game, why would you put
one of your franchises within walking distance
of several sports books? Answer me that question,
Mr. Goodell. Game fixing and point shaving. Are they realities,
especially in 2017? Uh, is this LeBron James? Yeah.

Uh, listen this is Mr. X, and... And I'd like you
to shave a few points tonight for the Ca-- You need a billion? Oh, okay thanks. Not gonna happen
with a professional athlete.

Those guys are untouchable. Forget about it.
Not gonna happen. But according to the leagues,
just the perception-- They're livin' in the dark ages
my dear, they're livin' in the dark ages. Time for 'em to come out..
